A healthy Paleo Diet

7. Paleo Diet

A Paleolithic or paleo diet is based on eating as our predecessors would have eaten, hence its other name - the Caveman diet. It includes foods that can be grown or gathered, such as meat, fish, eggs, fruits and vegetables. Naturally-obtained healthy fats and oils are included, as well as nuts, seeds, legumes and grains.

A strict paleo diet food list does not include dairy products such as milk, butter, cheese, etc. since these were developed later in time.

The high protein, low carb nature of the paleo diet can provide benefits in weight management and is usually satisfying and filling. With the elimination of highly processed foods and added sugar, the diet is natural, however, it can lead to deficiencies in some nutrients, particularly calcium and vitamin D.

There is also the risk of high intake of saturated fat with the paleo diet foods, and larger quantities of protein than may be healthy for the body. The paleo diet rules are similar to the keto diet, though slightly less restrictive.
